Support Center - Legal/Financial Please note:I'm not a legal or financial professional; I propose to know nothing about taxes, legal matters or anything else, for that matter. If you need help, please seek professional advice. That being said, here are some web resources that I have found useful. IRS page for Citizens working abroad

This will help you figure out if your earning in Iraq will be free of taxes from Uncle Sam (the Federal Government). It does not address state taxes at all.

What is a Durable Power of Attorney?
As defined by the Missouri Bar Association: ( http://www.mobar.org/pamphlet/durable.htm )
"A power of attorney is a document by which you appoint a person to act as your agent. An agent is one who has authorization to act for another person. The person who appoints the agent is the principal; the agent is also called the attorney-in-fact. If you have appointed an agent by a power of attorney, acts of the agent within the authority spelled out in the power of attorney are legally binding on you, just as though you performed the acts yourself. The power of attorney can authorize the attorney-in-act to perform a single act or a multitude of acts repeatedly. "
You need to find out what the legal form is for use in YOUR state.

Yahoo!'s currency converter ( http://finance.yahoo.com/currency) The Iraqi base monetary unit is the Iraqi Dinar (IDQ). You can get an estimate of what the going price currently is for IDQs and also the history of what the price has been. Please do NOT construe this as advice concerning if you should or should not purchase IDQs as an investment strategy. Currently, I believe, you can only make the exchanges in Iraq, itself, although there may be plans to trade it on the open market later in the year.

Traveling with your minor children

Notarized Travel Letter
Before your spouse leaves, you may wish to get a notarized letter of consent to allow you to take your minor children across state and country borders. Airlines and cruise ships may require this. (This is a sample, only, and should not be taken to be a legal document: Sample Letter of Consent To Travel )

Passports for Minors
If you plan to travel internationally with your minor children, get their passports before your spouse deploys. Otherwise, you must have them sign the paperwork in advance for allowing you to obtain one for them.
